Chennai Port Achieves Major Cargo Milestone in FY26
Chennai Port has crossed the 50-million-tonne cargo handling mark for the financial year 2025–26 on February 12, highlighting strong growth in maritime trade and logistics activity in the region.

This new terminal will be capable of handling ultra-large container ships carrying more than 15,000 containers, which currently often use foreign transshipment hubs such as Port of Colombo and Port of Singapore.

The Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Elevated Corridor is a 20.6-km elevated expressway designed mainly for container trucks moving to and from Chennai Port.
The corridor begins at Chennai Port near Napier Bridge and initially runs along the banks of the Cooum River, passing through central Chennai areas such as Chintadripet, Egmore, Chetpet, and Aminjikarai.
