When you look at a Patta today, you may see a survey number such as 120/2A. But this was not always the identity of the land.

Over nearly 200 years, each major survey phase—starting from the early British-era cadastral surveys, followed by re-settlement operations, later re-surveys, and finally the UDR modernisation—introduced its own numbering logic and mapping corrections. This means the same physical land may appear under different survey numbers in different time periods, depending on when the record was updated.

Initially, in 1802, the Great Trigonometrical Survey began when Col.
