CapitaLand Data Centre Chennai 01 has been unveiled in Ambattur, Chennai, with a planned investment of approximately ₹1,940 crore. The project is jointly held by CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT) and CapitaLand India Data Centre Fund.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong unveiled the facility on 15 October 2026. It is CLINT’s first data centre development in Tamil Nadu, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.

53 MW Capacity Across 13 Data Halls

The CapitaLand Chennai data centre will have 53 MW of gross power capacity, including 34 MW of IT power capacity across 13 data halls. A dedicated 110 kV substation will support its electricity requirements.

Gross power capacity covers the facility as a whole, including cooling and supporting systems. IT power capacity refers to the power available for servers and other computing equipment.

The centre is intended to serve large cloud providers, global technology companies and enterprise customers.

Why Ambattur Was Chosen

Ambattur offers an established data centre corridor, developed infrastructure and access to reliable power supply. The project occupies a four-acre freehold site, with a dedicated substation planned to support its electricity needs.

Although Ambattur is inland, land-based fibre cables can connect data centres to Chennai’s coastal cable landing stations. These stations link India to international data networks, so a data centre does not need to be on the seashore to access them.

It is designed to offer carrier-neutral connectivity, allowing customers to choose between network providers rather than depend on a single operator.

Cooling Systems for High-Density Computing

The facility is designed to support high-density computing, where powerful equipment operates within a compact space. Its planned liquid-cooling capability will help manage the heat produced by this equipment.

Other planned features include high-efficiency chillers, water-saving cooling measures, intelligent energy management and solar panels. The development is targeting LEED Gold certification, a green-building standard.

CapitaLand’s Presence in Tamil Nadu

CapitaLand’s presence in Tamil Nadu spans 22 years, with more than ₹6,000 crore invested across seven operational assets. Its portfolio includes business parks, industrial and logistics facilities, and serviced residences.

The Ambattur project adds data centre infrastructure to this existing presence.
