The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has officially extended the deadline for its ongoing special property tax collection camps until July 31, 2026, offering much-needed relief and additional time for property owners across the city to clear their pending dues.
The civic body usually collects around ₹1,800 crore in property tax annually. Around ₹96 crore was collected through the special camps held between July 3 and July 15.
The extended timeframe reflects the civic body’s ongoing initiative to enhance tax compliance while ensuring that residents find the payment process easier and more convenient.
Originally Scheduled: July 3 – July 17, 2026
Extended Deadline: Till July 31, 2026
Venue: GCC zonal and ward offices across Chennai
Timings: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on all working day
This allows property owners to pay their taxes in person without going through lengthy procedures.
The initiative has been particularly helpful for senior citizens and individuals who may not be comfortable using online payment systems. By extending the deadline, the GCC aims to ensure that more residents can take advantage of these camps and settle their dues without facing penalties or last-minute rush.
Officials have emphasized that timely payment of property tax is essential for the city’s development, as these funds are used to maintain infrastructure, improve public services, and support civic projects such as road maintenance, waste management, and water supply systems.
Property owners who have outstanding dues are strongly encouraged to utilize this extended window and complete their payments before the revised deadline. Residents can visit their nearest GCC office during camp hours, where staff members are available to assist with calculations, clarifications, and payment processing.
In addition to in-person payments, the GCC continues to offer online payment options through its official website, providing flexibility for those who prefer digital transactions. However, the special camps remain a convenient alternative for those seeking direct assistance.
With the new deadline in place, residents now have ample time to fulfill their tax obligations. The GCC urges everyone to act promptly and avoid last-minute delays, ensuring a smoother process for both taxpayers and the administration.
